On the 19th March 2022, LSE sent their Women’s Senior 4+ and Men’s Senior 8+ to compete at Kingston Head of the River. While the competition distance of 5.2km was initially intimidating to some (mainly Eleanor), the wonderful weather and beautiful starting position right next toHampton Court Palace quickly alleviated any fears and set a positive mood for the day. The Women’s 4+ had a strong race – starting well and even managing to overcome some very choppy water and a small collision with another crew. After overtaking two crews during the race, the women finished with an admirable second place in their category and were very pleased with their efforts – and even more pleased with the free hot dog they managed to achieve. The Men’s 8+faced some last-minute crew substitutions yet did not let this hold them back and finished in a strong third place in their category. Despite the choppy (and quite scary) conditions, both crews showed great perseverance and enjoyed their day trip on the Thames surrounded by sunshine, high spirits, and even a historical landmark – well done LSE!
